The National Pacific Business Trust Awards are run by the Pacific Business Trust (PBT), and have been staged 10 times since 1993. The Awards provide a unique platform to celebrate success, focus on growth and sustainability of Pacific enterprise and recognise innovation in Pacific business, contributing to the growth of the New Zealand economy.
The 2016 Awards were held at the Langham Hotel in Auckland on 28 October 2016.
Bringing the awards back for the first time since 2010, PBT was keen to celebrate successful businesses, acknowledging those that have weathered challenging economic conditions as well as the new wave of Pacific entrepreneurs coming through.
A commitment had been made to bring back the awards by the then-Chair, Rob Neru who tragically and suddenly passed away in April 2016. His untimely passing made it even more important to make the event happen. The challenges increased as PBT was also tasked with appointing a new CE.
Our brief was to support the PBT team in delivering a successful event in the areas of event logistics, ticketing and RSVP management, development of a print programme, public relations and graphic design.
Oceania Media developed event branding and, at short notice, an event portal website. This contained an online ticketing functionality especially for the event, channelling all sales, VIP RSVPs and blog updates through the site. It also included an online nominations area with built-in online forms with file upload ability.
Communications were targeted at promoting the event to potential nominees, finalists, VIPs, sponsors, PBT networks and key stakeholders through a range of channels. These included public relations, email marketing, face-to-face engagement and targeted phone calls.
Oceania Media developed a suite of tools for print consistent with event branding, including a 20-page print programme, awards certificates, a sponsor proposal, nomination pack and printable tickets.
With more than 450 guests in attendance, including Mayor-elect Phil Goff and Minister for Pacific Peoples, Hon. Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, and entertainment which included Ardijah, Laughing Samoan Eteuati Ete and Pacific Dance New Zealand, the event was a great success.
